Britain's largest sculpture - and one of the 12 'Official Icons of England' - makes for a great sight.
Created in 1998 by the sculptor Anthony Gormley, the Angel was designed so that it would age over time, showing the effect weather has on sculptures. It is possible to explore the Angel of the North from up-close, being only a short detour away from the A1. The detour is well worth it, and each year over 150,000 people visit the Angel to see it up close. Where: A167, Durham Road, Gateshead Phone: 0191 433 8400 Website: |
