Hadrian's Wall was built over a six year period during the reign of Emperor Hadrian, who came to Britain in AD 122.

It was designed to separate the Romans from the Barbarians, something it managed for over 250 years.  The area along the wall is now home to forts, temples, milecastles and turrets.
