I was lucky enough to be invited to the launch of Breadbox Recording last night, at The Bakery Art Gallery.  Breadbox Recording is billed as a "state-of-the-art" recording studio, and, from what I saw, it certainly lives up to this billing.

ImageI was invited to the launch party by Elaine Johnson, who has set up Breadbox in Studio 7 of The Bakery Art Gallery, which opened last month and is run by her husband.  The gallery itself, in North Shields, has a vast number of art pieces, and I enjoyed browsing the studios and main gallery space.

Breadbox Recording is on the first floor of the Bakery, and is filled with complicated electronic equipment.  The studio was also well furnished, with comfortable sofas.  Elaine has managed to keep much of the feel of the original building in Breadbox, with one of the building's beams running over our heads.

When we arrived at the party, we were greeted by live music in the gallery's main space, where people were gathered.  Laura Mackle flew over from Northern Ireland to sing at the launch, and she was going to perform later on in the evening.

I gather that the music on arrival was from a local band, and it was certainly enjoyable.  They played some of their own music, as well as some Bob Dylan classics and other well-known songs.

Everyone in attendance seemed to enjoy the event and the art on show, and it was certainly good to be able to browse the gallery amongst other people.  The Bakery is well worth a visit, and they can be contacted on 0191 258 3333.

Breadbox Recording is North Shields's first professional recording studio, run by Elaine Johnson.  Elaine began songwriting in 2000, and has since been writing full-time.  She has had success in the European Top 10 charts, as well as on the American Song of the Year site, where her Christmas song received one of the highest scores.

Breadbox can be contacted on 0191 258 3333, or online, at breadboxrecording.co.uk.
