Hatton Gallery
Current Exhibition Details
Described in recent years as "one of the most impressive exhibition spaces in Britain", the Hatton Gallery has been at the heart of cultural life in the North East since the early twentieth century.

The annual programme of contemporary, modern and historical exhibitions brings a diverse range of high quality art to the north of England which regularly receives national media attention.

The permanent collection comprises over 3,500 works of art including painting, sculpture, prints, drawing and many other media dating from the 14th century to the present day.

This includes the Merzbarn Wall by Kurt Schwitters, the Uhlman Collection of African Art and paintings by Francis Bacon, Palma Giovane, Camillo Procaccini, Patrick Heron, William Roberts, Victor Pasmore and Richard Ansdell.

Alongside the permanent collection, the Gallery presents major national and international touring exhibitions.

Recent touring exhibitions in 2006 have included A Secret Service: Art, Compulsion, Concealment, a new Haywood Gallery Touring Exhibition in collaboration with the Hatton Gallery.
